Step 1: Apply the primer
Primer is the best solution to get rid of paint stickiness. You may never think how a primer can assist you! Primer stops the interaction with the elements, which may cause stickiness. Therefore, the application of primer reduces the chance of stickiness.
Apply the primer on the surface or object you want to spray paint. It helps to smooth the uneven surface, enhance durability, and bring out the best color of the spray paint.
Step – 2: Shake it
Bear in mind – shake the can vigorously after applying primer coat and before applying spray paint. Again, shaking should not be too little or excessive.
Proper shaking maintains viscosity to make the spray paint non-sticky. If you do not shake the can appropriately, it will never show the actual color and proper texture of the paint.
Step – 3: Spray the first coat
Make sure that the applied primer is completely dry before spraying the first coat. Spray the first coat on the surface or object once the primer is dry entirely.
Check the irregular corners carefully because, most often, the spray paint cannot get there. Therefore, pay extra attention and care.
Another necessary point to consider is that if you think you miss out on some area, then never over-apply the spray paint. Due to the over-apply of spray paint, it takes too much time to dry and leads to stickiness. To get rid of over-spray, you can use graffiti remover.
Step – 4: Perfectly apply the second coat if required
Application of second coat is completely your choice. If you think the applied color is insufficient, then add a second coat.
Again, a point to be noted before applying the second layer – the first coat needs to dry properly as the application of the second layer on a wet surface can make it more unattractive and messy. Use a heater if you want to speed up the drying process.
Step – 5: Use talcum powder
Sprinkle a bit of talcum powder on the sticky paint to fix the tackiness. Rub the talcum powder very softly with your hand. The stickiness will vanish within few minutes.
If needed, you can again apply the powder to explore the outcome. Again, remember never apply excessively as it may hamper the finishing. It is very effective for bathroom vanity, dresser, bookshelf, cabinet, etc.
Step – 6: Check temperature and humidity
Humidity is bad for spray paint. So, how to avoid this?
Never choose a humid day to spray paint, close the windows while painting, and ensure no moisture is present. Use a heater or fan to minimize the humidity level.
Also, you can apply wax, furniture police to make it non-sticky.
